Life can be pretty stressful. Each person reacts to it a little differently. Some internalize, others externalize, taking it out on others. We each take out frustrations on each other occasionally. Keyword: occasionally. Then there are the chronically negative people. They exist in every life sector: home, workplace, classroom, business, even in supposedly peaceful places like church.



If you spend enough time around negativity, it can make you negative by proxy. We all know people-- co-workers, spouses, supervisors, teachers, friends--who find fault with everything and everyone. If it's you they're haranguing, they can tear apart your self-esteem. You start questioning yourself, doubting your abilities and judgment. Termites of shame bore into the foundation of your being. My husband and I have been married 27 years. People ask how we stay together and I say "harnesses and leashes." I kid. :) What holds us together is practicing little behaviors I call "relationship glue recipes." Today's is: turn it around--negativity, fighting, criticizing. Here's how.



I've got a bad habit of nagging. He's a third shifter and I worry if he doesn't get enough sleep. Sometimes he stays up too late doing things I think are piddly. Some are, most aren't. Point is, it's not my business.
